A community tension is a situation of heightened feeling within a community or neighbourhood that can make residents fearful and anxious. These situations can threaten the peace and stability of an area and also have the potential to lead to disorder.
Community tensions take many forms and are a result of various factors and situations that are either ongoing or are likely to happen. For example, community tensions can happen because a rival football team comes to town, or because there is going to be an increase in council tax and people decide to protest. They can also happen as a result of regional, national or international event impacting on our communities.
