What you need to provide:
  • Proof of your partner’s identity: You must provide something such as a current valid passport, driving licence, birth certificate, marriage certificate, medical card, utility bill (paid in your name in the last quarter), a bank statement (dated within the last four weeks), recent letter from Department for Work and Pensions, a letter from a solicitor, inland revenue, doctor or social worker.
  • Proof of your partner’s National Insurance number (NINO): You must provide something that shows your partner’s NINO, such as a P45, P60, National Insurance Card, Wage or salary statement, a tax letter from Inland Revenue or Department for Work and Pensions.
  • If they are working I need to see their last 5 weekly, 3 fortnightly or 2 monthly wage slips. If they don't have wage slips you can print this form Employer’s certificate of earned income then they can ask their employer to complete and return it.
  • If they are self-employed please provide up-to-date accounts prepared by an accountant or their “books” and their last tax assessment “notification of tax due” letter issued by HM Revenues and Customs (HMRC). If they do not have up-to-date accounts please print out this form Self employed earner- Certificate of earnings, complete and return it to Kirklees Council benefits section.
  • If they are claiming benefits I need to know what they are claiming.
  • proof of any savings:
    • Their savings and bank accounts: I need to see the last two statements from the bank or building society, or the savings book for each account they have.
    • National Savings Certificates and shares: I need to see the National Savings Certificate issue showing the date the certificates were issued.
    • Stocks and shares: I need to see the number of stocks or shares certificates held and the number of each.
    • Premium bonds: I need to see the Bonds themselves
  • If you are still receiving child benefit for them tell us and provide proof of this. This could be a bank statement showing the latest child benefit payment being made to your account or your child benefit letter showing their name and the date the child benefit will end for them. If you no longer get child benefit you must tell me the date it stopped and tell me what their current income is.
  • If they are working I need to see their last 5 weekly, 3 fortnightly or 2 monthly wage slips. If they don't have wage slips you can print this form Employer’s certificate of earned income for Non-dependant then they can ask their employer to complete and return it.
  • If they are claiming benefits I need to know their National Insurance Number and what they are claiming.
  • If they are continuing into Higher Education please provide a letter from their education provider showing their course start and end dates.

It is an offence not to tell us about any change of circumstance that affects your benefit. We may take court action against you, or you may have to pay a penalty, or other action may be taken against you and if we pay you too much benefit, you will probably have to pay it back.
